Christmas is the festival of Christians, celebrated on 25th of December every year around the Globe. It is a time of joy, reflection and togetherness, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is regarded as s beacon of hope, love and compassion. Now-a-days Christmas has grown into a global festival that transcends religious boundaries. What is Christmas Day?

Origin

Christmas marks the birth of Jesus Christ, believed to have taken place in Bethlehem over 2,000 years ago. According to Christian theology, Jesus was born to Mary and Joseph in a humble stable, signifying humility and hope for humanity.

The festival gained prominence in the 4th century when the Roman Emperor Constantine officially recognized it. December 25th was chosen to coincide with existing pagan festivals, making it a symbolic celebration of light and renewal.

Religious Importance

To Christians, Christmas is a time to receive the coming of Christ, the intended Messiah. Religious observances like Midnight Mass, the reading of the story of Jesus’ birth, and singing of carols that focus on what Jesus came to teach humans (namely, love, compassion, and forgiveness) all abound during the festival.
